I put my rig together on Wednesday and have been tinkering with it the past few days when Im not busy with school and work. Anyways I have been able to OC it to 3.2 but Im not sure about the stability because I haven't really run any stability tests for a long period of time. I do not like that the bios does not allow you to change the voltages for the CPU or Memory. The board is suppose to support DDR2-1066 but most DDR2-1066 needs 2.1v to run at that speed.
I have been able to get my Ram close to DDR2-1000 by upping the voltage in AMD Overdrive. That is also how I got it OC'ed to 3.2, by upping the CPU voltage in AMD Overdrive to 1.4v (the highest it allows). Does anyone know any other programs that allow you to change CPU voltage from within Windows? Also MSI Live Update doesn't work for me.
But I'm running Vista x64 which I think is the problem. Im also not to sure if the on-board audio is working or not. I installed the drivers and plugged in my headphones and got no sound.
All in all I am not to impressed with this motherboard and I will most likely be emailing MSI tech support asking them for a new bios with access to changing the voltages (they are read-only and set to auto in the bios). After doing some research on the MSI forums I found out that if you select the voltages in the BIOS and then press the + or - key on the numpad it will change it from auto and allow you to actually change the voltages. It didn't really matter though because even after putting it at 1.5 Vcore I still can't run 3.3ghz stable. The BIOS does have a good selection of options for ram timings and subtimings but I am coming from a S939 and DDR and don't know much about DDR2 so I have left all the timings on auto for the most part. Yea from what I have heard, 3.3ghz is pretty much the wall your gonna hit on this CPU, especially on air cooling.
I found a nice sweet spot at 13x250 = 3.25ghz. Ht multiplier of 4x = 1000 mhz HT link speed.
Ram is running at DDR2-968. It seems pretty stable and was able to run some quick loops of SuperPi which would crash on me at 3.3ghz.
Does anyone know how to get Orthos to work in Vista x64? It is giving me the error 'Driver didn't load' right after I hit the start button. I attached a screenshot for validation. Therock, make sure your extracting the 'worker.dll' file with the Orthos.exe. Perhaps that might be your issue. Those two files need to be in the same folder ect. Let us know Good luck.
