F5521gw Mobile Broadband Driver For Mac

Hello all, I am testing Windows 10 TP (Build 9860) on my Lenovo ThinkPad X220 laptop with integrated Ericsson F5521gw WWAN card. I have tried creating a connection to the internet via PPPoE in the Network and Sharing Center. However, I am getting Error 651 - 'The modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error'. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the WWAN card drivers but had no luck. The WWAN adapter is displayed correctly under Network Connections and in Device Manager.

Mobile broadband on this laptop worked perfectly in Windows 8.1, in fact 8.1 even automatically configured a connection to my mobile provider, all I had to do was click connect. Is this auto configuration feature not implemented in Windows 10 TP? Hope someone can help. Ps, my mobile broadband SIM card is on the 'Three UK' network. The APN does not require a username or password.

Read the post by Alex Zhaozx and especially the information at the link in the post and you will discover beyond a reasonable doubt this problem must be resolved by Lenovo and/or Ericsson, not Microsoft. If the hardware manufacturer/vendor does not publish the hardware drivers and utility software needed for full functionality there is nothing Microsoft can do to fix the problem nor to force the manufacturer/vendor to provide the necessary software. You are entirely at the mercy of Lenovo and/or Ericsson with this situation. I wiped my SSD and clean installed build 9841 from the ISO. Installed mobile broadband driver (as normal - not in compatibility mode). Install completed successfully - everything present and correct in Device Manager.

Just as in W8.1 - Mobile broadband is available in the 'Networks' slide out on the right hand side of the screen and my provider identified - no setup required. Device connected and worked perfectly. Downloaded and installed 9860 build via Settings app. Upgrade to build 9860 completed successfully. Mobile broadband no longer available, nor is the networks slide out, clicking the system tray icon opens the settings app on the Connections page instead.

Mobile broadband card (and associated elements) still present and correct in Device Manager Summary: It appears that something has changed between 9841 and 9860 in how Windows manages network connections. The Networks slide out is no longer available and instead the settings app opens on the Connections page and my mobile broadband is not available. Uninstalling and re-installing the driver makes no difference. I feel this issue may not necessarily be my card or driver. I have a W520 with the F5521GW builtin, and I get the same problem even after a clean install of build 9879. It's strange that the drivers seems to install just fine and seem to work in Device manager, but there is no Mobile Broadband section in the 'network flyout'.

The flyout is still there in 9879, but you have to activate it by going to PC Settings, Network, Manage. There you will find 'Open network flyout'. But I only see the Wifi. Please let me know if anyone gets it to work. Tom Aafloen, IT-security Consultant Onevinn AB. Exact same issue here - W520 with F5521gw, worked in 9841, stopped in either 9860 or 9879. One additional thing I noticed that I don't think has been mentioned is that in PC Settings - Network - Manage I still see Mobile Broadband listed, but clicking on it still doesn't show an on/off toggle, just a 'Share this connection' switch, a Properties section with a Copy button (which crashes/closes the window when you click it) and an empty Security section.

Same conclusion as everyone else - something changed in a post-9841 build that broke mobile broadband, or at least the ability to toggle it on and off. Hopefully this can be addresses in the next public build!
