I used to play Diablo II LOD and I used maphack for quick hell forge, countess and Arcane Sanctuary runs. I was always super paranoid about being banned. Maphack was extremely common back then, all my D2 buddies and I used it as well. It helped make the game very playable after you've played through it enough times. I can understand fog of war hacks and bots being bannable, but maphack added functionality D2 needed, imo. I can't imagine playing through it again in this day and age without maphack.
