• Mackie Onyx Driver Download Mac

My band has a Mackie Onyx 1640(not the 'i') with the FireWire card. I've got a unibody (mid 2009) Macbook Pro that I'm trying to use with it to do live recordings; I'll be using either audacity or Ardour to record with if it helps. I bought a fw800 to fw400 cable from Monoprice to connect the mixer to my laptop and haven't been able to get the laptop to 'see' the mixer(in OSX or bootcamped Win7). I was able to get the mixer to work/record using an old(and unreliable) laptop that I have running Ubuntu Studio and, on my other hard drive, windows 7. The old laptop was using a fw400 PCMCIA adapter and a fw400 to fw400 cable. I've posted this question over in the Mackie forums and didn't get any useful replies.

Is anybody on here using an Onyx FireWire card with a Mac? If so which brand of FireWire cable did you use? From what I've gathered at the Mackie forums these cards are picky about which cable you use and I'd rather not start buying every FireWire cable on amazon till I get one that works. I may have to new an OS for it (10.8 Mountain Lion, the newest one to date) and if that's the case I'm outta luck because I do too much other stuff with my computer to backtrack to an older version. However I'm currently inclined to think I have a cable issue because Windows 7 won't see it. I just installed a x32 at my parents church and after mixing on it some I've come to appreciate the simplicity of an analog board; not saying anything bad about the x32 though it's great for what it is. I'm surprised that they say that no drivers are required with a Mac, because the Firewire card comes with drivers and they must be installed to work with a PC. I have not had issues with FW cables, but I think I've used the same one or two consistently with the board and PC. In a PC, when you set preferences in Audacity, Reaper or another DAW, you need to check that the computer recognizes ASIO as the record/playback device - same with a Mac? If ASIO is needed, I think you'll need to load a driver in order for the computer to have access to ASIO and recognize the board as an input.

The driver seems to be what's missing from the equation and it surprises me that Mackie says one is not necessary.
